Sources & Methodology

Chocolate.tz exists because, as of September 2026, no single current publication covers Tanzania's bean-to-bar chocolate industry as an ongoing beat. Here is how we source things.

What we do

  • Every factual claim traces to a named, linked source. Where sources conflict or a figure looks unverified, we say so in the article rather than picking the most convenient number.
  • We distinguish clearly between confirmed-operating businesses and ones we haven't verified recently — see the caveats on our makers directory.
  • We keep this site's scope to processing, manufacturing and industry development. Growing, fermentation-as-agriculture, and raw-bean trade belong to our sibling site, Cacao.tz.

What we don't do

  • We don't inflate a small industry to look bigger than it is. Tanzania has a handful of real bean-to-bar businesses today, not dozens — we'd rather report that honestly than pad a directory.
  • We don't run consumer marketplace or e-commerce functionality here. Where a maker sells directly, we link to them.

Chocolate.tz's directory listings follow the same network-wide supplier verification levels — Listed, Source-confirmed, Verified — used across the Commodities.tz network.
